Thank you to everybody we've worked with 2014!




It's been a busy year for the Graduate to Merseyside team: hosting successful events at the Liverpool Innovation Park and the University of Liverpool Pop Up Shop in partnership with Santander Universities for IFB 2014; attending network events across Merseyside and placing nearly 180 graduates (with more at interview!) to take us to nearly 600 graduates we’ve placed across Merseyside. With the Merseyside economy improving we’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing companies that have recruited graduates in a variety of roles that are making a real impact.

UPDATE: Limited funding of up to £1,500 available for companies recruiting a Graduate!


 

The University of Liverpool in partnership with the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership is committed to supporting the local economy and is currently offering a training support package of up to £1,500 to local businesses recruiting graduates or students through the Stepping Stones programme. Whilst you are still liable for their wages, the training allowance will help the successful candidate develop any specific skills that would directly benefit your business.

The programme has already assisted 29 companies in creating 33 jobs across Merseyside including success stories such as MedePad, Seaking Electrical and Quantum of Value and there’s currently a limited amount of funding left over to help further new businesses.

Graduate of the Month: Chris


Chris is a recent graduate from Business & Management from Leeds Metropolitan with over 10 years’ experience within customer service as well as experience working as an Accounts Assistant and is currently seeking a career within accountancy and/or finance in the Merseyside area.

Benross Group makes it 550 Graduates!


Only 8 weeks after our 500th graduate started we have recently placed our 550th graduate into employment with Liverpool based Benross Group!

Benross Marketing Limited stocks one of the UK’s largest ranges of products ranging from home wares, electrical products, furniture, tools and much much more, all available online on their website.

The lucky individual who started last week as a Sales Support / Web Administrator was recent University of Liverpool English graduate Luke Nicholson who has experience in online marketing communications. Responsible for providing expert sales support and customer care as well as dealing with web enquiries, Luke is relishing his new role and responsibilities:

This month we profile Chris, a recent first class history graduate from the University of Liverpool. With proven experience in sales and marketing, customer service, and administration he is seeking a challenging role in an administration role in the business or charity sector.

Commercial Business Support Programme Launched


Developed by Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), working with local partners, The New Markets Programme* is a new way for local businesses to access high value, commercial business advice, tailored to your business needs and chosen by you.

Eligible businesses can receive a 35% contribution to the cost of commercial advice that supports business growth, procured through this programme*.

Wirral Chamber's Latest Recruit!



The objective of the Wirral Chamber of Commerce is to create a business environment stimulating growth, employment, and economic prosperity for both its members and Wirral alike. It achieves this through engagement so its members are aware about the support mechanisms available, so important for business growth.

Having worked closely for a number of years, Graham Maddrell, Wirral Chamber’s Marketing Manager, contacted Steve Wood with an opportunity for a Graduate Press and PR Officer to support and promote the Wirral Chamber across the borough. Having referred many of the Chamber members to Graduate to Merseyside, Graham is now experiencing the service directly himself.

Liverpool Business Hires Designer Graduate!


Liverpool based HESIS specialises in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance for various fire and security systems across the UK.

Creating bespoke packages for their customers they’ve worked with NHS Trusts, National Blue Chip companies, Mechanical & Electrical Contractors and many others. In fact they were recently responsible for all security systems, door access controls, CCTV and fire detection and alarm systems for the 710 bedroom Vine Court Student Accommodation building at The University of Liverpool.

The BIG Partnership makes it 500 graduates placed!

The University of Liverpool’s Graduate to Merseyside service has hit another major milestone, placing its 500th graduate into employment. 

The BIG Partnership, one of the UK’s largest full service public relations and digital marketing companies, recruited a new account executive to its city centre office using the service. The lucky graduate was Laurence Laidler, a University of Liverpool Business Studies graduate.

Local Business Seaking a Quality Graduate!

 

Wirral based Seaking Electrical ltd is a marine specialist electrical engineering firm founded in 2001 employing more than 100 staff. Catering for the marine, industrial, commercial, military and offshore markets it has worked in countries across the World.

Group Business Development Manager Neil Mellenchip was keen to recruit a Graduate Electrical Engineer with the skills, attitude and ambition to compliment his growing workforce. He contacted Invest Wirral, a specialist team that supports Wirral businesses with their development, who in turn directed him to Steve Wood, Project Manager for Graduate to Merseyside at the University of Liverpool.

This month we profile Claudia, a Liverpool Hope University Masters in Marketing Management graduate fluent in German, English, French and Romanian with marketing and project management experience from internships in companies such as Adidas. She's looking to develop her career in a challenging role within marketing.

Wirral Chamber launch scheme to help new and young businesses



A government-backed scheme has been launched by the Wirral Chamber of Commerce which offers a loan to those who want to start their own business or have been trading for less than 12 months.

The Start Up Loans Programme is aimed at those who may need a little extra cash to get their businesses off the ground or expand if they need to.

It's off to work we go!


With thousands of graduates donning their cap and gowns for graduation and a quarter of them from the Merseyside area, many are looking to put their various skills and experience into good use. Success Story: Recruit a Graduate in two weeks!

Liverpool City Centre based One Four Four Ductwork was set up in 2010 and has over 30 years’ experience in the manufacture and installation of air systems for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. With customers including national organisations as well as local businesses, they are growing every year.

Over the past couple of months we have been running “Meet the Team” events for final year students interested in working with local businesses in Merseyside. These sessions allowed us to find out more about these soon to be graduates to help identify the latest talent for our businesses. Quantum of Value recruits another graduate and receives up to £3,000 for training...

Quantum of Value, a leading business agility consultancy, recently expanded into Liverpool with the assistance of Liverpool Vision and recruited a University of Liverpool graduate, Joe Brownless, through Graduate to Merseyside (you can read the full story here). Settling into their new surroundings in the historic Port of Liverpool building, Quantum of Value were so impressed with the service they received that they came back to recruit another graduate to grow their team and provide marketing support.

Liverpool Business Fair 2014 - TOMORROW!



The Liverpool Business Fair has been running since 2002 and it is an annual business event that has become one of the most popular in the region. We have a very broad profile of business visitors with representation from all business sectors and most being at owner/manager/director level (the links below also provide some extra information). We usually get between 600 and 900 visitors to the event.

SMEs leading the recruitment drive in 2014!


According to a recent report by the Associate of Graduate Recruiters the number of graduate vacancies is to rise by 10.2% in 2014 due to growing business confidence and economic growth. Big growth sectors are set to include IT and telecommunications, energy and banking.  What is interesting is that it is the SME market that is spearheading this recruitment drive!
